Use A Crossover Cable To Improve Synergy Performance

With dedicated ethernet cards and a crossover cable, it should be possible to improve Synergy performance. It looks like it's possible under Windows to bind applications to a network adapter using ForceBindIP (free): http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/force-spec ... p-windows/ http://www.howtogeek.com/117890/how-to- ... work-card/ And it looks like it's possible under Linux to bind applications to a network adapter using LD Preload (free - complicated): http://superuser.com/questions/241178/h ... -processes http://daniel-lange.com/archives/53-Bin ... ic-IP.html And it looks like it's possible under Linux to route any communication to a specific IP through a network adapter using routing tables (free - looks easier): http://askubuntu.com/questions/4872/bin ... interfaces https://help.ubuntu.com/community/IptablesHowTo So, in theory, it should be possible. I wish there was a way to easily implement this in Synergy.
With dedicated ethernet cards and a crossover cable, it should be possible to improve Synergy performance.
Why kind of performance gains are you expecting to make? I don't know about you, but I don't experience any kind of lag... And for most people's usage scenarios, you're only going to be eliminating a single hop, i.e., the router/switch that both PC's are connected to. You might could increase responsiveness by 20-30 ms. That's 0.02 - 0.03 seconds. Honestly, if you're suffering so bad you need those kinds of gains, you're not using Synergy in a typical end user environment, and likely it would only benefit a very small sub-set of users. I don't mean to patronize; I really am trying to gauge your expectations on this implementation.
