Mouse button select

Hi all, I am search challenged but didn't find anything directly related to this, which seems odd as it's been happening for a few different builds for me. At times I can not hold down left mouse button and select a region of text in any word processing applications (word, outlook, etc) this seems to be random and can't figure out why but when trying to format paint can be very annoying. Nobody else seeing this? Thanks, DW
