Not exactly the local expert on Linux. What are they using now and why do you think it is less efficient?

You'll get as many answers to this as there are Linux developers. Everyone's got their favorite. cpack's not a bad package manager, but there may be bigger fish for the newly-reconstituted Synergy team to fry.

Pardon my innocence, i was under the impression that "Future Ideas" was a good place to suggest.

It's a perfect place to suggest, and we appreciate it! My point was only that changing the package manager might not be at the top of the priority list at this time.
