Mr. T.
I have a MacBook Pro running High Sierra, using the MacBooks monitor +1 external monitor. I also have a Windows 7 Laptop, also running the laptop monitor +1 monitor. Total of two computers with 4 screens total. I have an external mouse connected to each machine, and an external keyboard connected to the MacBook. I've just purchased a Pro license and installed 2.0.12-beta on both machines. I don't see any errors... I see the GUI with both computers on them. The one with the keyboard attached (the MacBook Pro) is green with a white dot. It is selected as "Share from...". The other screen in the GUI shows the Windows Laptop. It is greyed out with a scrolling green line. They seem to be communicating in some manner, because if I click the mouse or keyboard on one computer the white dot follows! But I can't move the mouse from one computer over to the other. The external keyboard only works on the computer it's connected to. I've read what I can find, but I must be missing something! Or, it's really not working for me. Would appreciate any assistance! Thank you.
Mr. T.
So I uninstalled 2.0.12 on both machines and decided to install Version 1 instead. And, I got this one working. But I'm having a problem in that every few minutes I get a "server us dead" on the client and a "client is dead" warning in the log on the server. It disconnects, and then eventually reconnects again on it's own. I've got to say, I didn't expect it to be so difficult. Here is a clip from the log on the server side: [2018-05-22T22:23:07] INFO: entering screen [2018-05-22T22:23:07] NOTE: client "NOVA-PC0AKKMV" is dead [2018-05-22T22:23:21] INFO: OpenSSL 1.0.2n 7 Dec 2017 [2018-05-22T22:23:21] INFO: accepted secure socket [2018-05-22T22:23:21] INFO: AES256-GCM-SHA384 TLSv1.2 Kx=RSA Au=RSA Enc=AESGCM(256) Mac=AEAD [2018-05-22T22:23:21] NOTE: accepted client connection [2018-05-22T22:23:21] NOTE: client "NOVA-PC0AKKMV" has connected [2018-05-22T22:23:29] INFO: switch from "Michaels-MacBook-Pro.local" to "NOVA-PC0AKKMV" at 1919,261 [2018-05-22T22:23:29] INFO: leaving screen [2018-05-22T22:23:29] WARNING: cursor may not be visible 2018-05-22 22:23:29.377 synergys[672:31323] pid(672)/euid(501) is calling TIS/TSM in non-main thread environment, ERROR : This is NOT allowed. Mr. T.
Today I tried switching the keyboard from the MacBook to the Windows Laptop instead. After changing the configuration for which was server/client, and rebooting both machines, they connect fine. Except for the same issue where they keep losing connection for some reason. So it really doesn't seem to matter which is the client or server, they lose connection. I'm really at a loss here and if no one has any ideas I'll have no choice but to request a refund and try another solution. Here is a log capture from the server (this time the Windows 7 laptop) [2018-05-23T09:57:06] NOTE: client "Michaels-MacBook-Pro.local" has connected [2018-05-23T09:57:08] INFO: OpenSSL 1.0.2o 27 Mar 2018 [2018-05-23T09:57:09] ERROR: ssl error occurred (system call failure) [2018-05-23T09:57:09] ERROR: failed to accept secure socket [2018-05-23T09:57:09] INFO: client connection may not be secure [2018-05-23T09:58:00] NOTE: client "Michaels-MacBook-Pro.local" is dead [2018-05-23T09:58:22] INFO: OpenSSL 1.0.2o 27 Mar 2018 [2018-05-23T09:58:22] INFO: accepted secure socket [2018-05-23T09:58:22] INFO: AES256-GCM-SHA384 TLSv1.2 Kx=RSA Au=RSA Enc=AESGCM(256) Mac=AEAD [2018-05-23T09:58:22] NOTE: accepted client connection [2018-05-23T09:58:22] NOTE: client "Michaels-MacBook-Pro.local" has connected [2018-05-23T09:58:23] INFO: OpenSSL 1.0.2o 27 Mar 2018 [2018-05-23T09:58:25] ERROR:ssl error occurred (system call failure) [2018-05-23T09:58:25] ERROR: failed to accept secure socket [2018-05-23T09:58:25] INFO: client connection may not be secure [2018-05-23T09:58:33] INFO: switch from "NOVA-PC0AKKMV" to "Michaels-MacBook-Pro.local" at -1920,594 [2018-05-23T09:58:33] INFO: leaving screen [2018-05-23T09:58:34] INFO: switch from "Michaels-MacBook-Pro.local" to "NOVA-PC0AKKMV" at 1909,635 [2018-05-23T09:58:34] INFO: entering screen And on the client (this time the macbook) [2018-05-23T09:55:22] NOTE: connected to server [2018-05-23T09:56:16] NOTE: server is dead [2018-05-23T09:56:17] WARNING: failed to connect to server: server is not responding [2018-05-23T09:56:18] NOTE: connecting to '192.168.1.234': 192.168.1.234:24800 [2018-05-23T09:56:18] INFO: OpenSSL 1.0.2n 7 Dec 2017 [2018-05-23T09:56:34] WARNING: failed to connect to server: Timed out [2018-05-23T09:56:35] NOTE: connecting to '192.168.1.234': 192.168.1.234:24800 [2018-05-23T09:56:35] INFO: OpenSSL 1.0.2n 7 Dec 2017 [2018-05-23T09:56:38] NOTE: server fingerprint: 13:7B:64:91:BF:51:0A:0C:76:9B:A1:41:29:5E:18:5C:B0:87:86:17 [2018-05-23T09:56:38] INFO: connected to secure socket [2018-05-23T09:56:38] INFO: server ssl certificate info: /CN=Synergy [2018-05-23T09:56:38] INFO: AES256-GCM-SHA384 TLSv1.2 Kx=RSA Au=RSA Enc=AESGCM(256) Mac=AEAD 2018-05-23 09:56:38.435 synergyc[620:9844] pid(620)/euid(501) is calling TIS/TSM in non-main thread environment, ERROR : This is NOT allowed. Mr. T. jcarlstrom
we are all having the same problem with a MBP with High Sierra as server and a win7 or win10 machine as a client. every once in a while it will work but no one seems to know why or what permutation of booting, uninstall/reinstall, or hardware configuration will be consistent. I saw in the forum that 2.0.9 may work reliably. Unfortunately for you and I (i bought this last week and having the same problem) we don't have the older version. I requested it from support. If they send it to me I will try it and let you know. in the meantime i keep trying different things to see if the white whale shows up and I get a connection again. Sorry. Mr. T.
If someone on this forum has a copy of 2.0.9 for MacOS and for Windows 7 in 64bit, I would very much like to get it from you to try them on my computers. Please let me know.
GranPaSmurf
Mr. T. I'm sorry you are having all these issues. I can't offer much right now since I'm not sure what version you are using now. Except to offer this: all versions of Synergy, Version 1 to date, are a little hard to completely uninstall. They leave behind some files that have to do with configuration. In order to get a good experience with whatever the new install is, one needs to do a thorough uninstall of the existing version. I use a 3rd party uninstaller when I'm troubleshooting. Here is a post by Nick about uninstall/reinstall: UN-RE-INSTALLhttps://symless.com/forums/topic/4519-synergy-2-how-to-uninstall-and-reinstall/ Oh, and one last thing, don't post full logs here. Just a link to your logs works a lot better for the forum.
Mr. T.
Thank you GranPaSurf for the information. I installed version 1.9.1 when I couldn't get 2.0.12 to work. That's what is currently installed, but not working properly. I followed the instructions on the site for completely removing version 2.0.12 before installing 1.9.1. I noticed that there were instructions for posting links to logs for version 2, but I couldn't find a way to post a link for for my logs for version 1.9.1 which is why it's copied and pasted. I am still hoping that someone may be able to email (or cloud transfer) me versions 2.0.9 to try on my MacOS and Windows 7 machines.
GranPaSmurf
I don't know how V1 is set up for support these days, but for V2, after you right-click in the log area and choose 'send log.' you can then right-click in the blue area and select 'view log' that will send it to your default browser. From there you can copy the URL. I don't do MAC, so I'm no help to you with that.
jcarlstrom
mr. T They are offering to download version 1 or version 2. I just ran the uninstall instructions on both my windows and mac machines, installed 1.9, configured it and it is running like a champ.
Mr. T.
I guess there won't be any solutions. Synergy support replied to my request for assistance with a refund offer and nothing else. I was really hoping for a solution not a refund. I will keep an eye on the site and hopefully in the future there will be a more stable solution available. I'm sure I can't be the only one trying to use a MBP with High Sierra and a W7 Laptop together.
Mr. T.
I ended up purchasing a KVM from Tripp-Lite. Works perfect for keyboard and mouse switching. Still hoping that I will eventually read on here that Synergy is working for MBP High Sierra users in the future. It would still be my preferred option when it's available and stable.
