Cloning inputs?

Is there currently a way to clone the keyboard inputs on all attached computers at once regardless of which one has the mouse on it? I am trying to get duplicate keyboard presses on my vm and desktop. Many forums on google recommended synergy for this so I bought it but I cant seem to find any configuration files or any way to configure the program, it just runs one way.
