Split-tunnel VPN confuses synergy

My setup is two machines on a fast local network. One has split-tunnel VPN established, so that it can still connect to local resources.

How do I force the local connection?

Synergy appears easily confused and is no longer connecting.  Constantly rebooting synergy, or the entire machine, is not a solution!!

Previously I was able to configure the IP address, I hate this new UI which gives me zero control over getting these machines to talk.  Even when it does work, it often tries to connect out the VPN, then back over the internet to the other local machine.

I'm seeing the same thing, sort of.

Server has a subnet dedicated to NAT for VMs. Server is making connections to the correct IP of the client as it only has 1 address, but the client has somehow been informed that it should attempt to connect to the subnet which provides NAT for VMs on that box.

And yes, the new simplified UI is pretty frustrating. Why not include the legacy UI as well?
