Mac-sever-mac-client client clicks show on server

I've been a Synergy fanboy and user for years. Until recently, my server was always Linux (Ubuntu). I've recently moved to a Mac server with a Mac client.  Version 1.8.8 on both. Often, when I click something in the client, I get side effects on the server, eg something getting selected on the server as well. Also, if I move the mouse rapidly in the client, I can see very small movement on the server (pointer moves a bit) etc.

Magic-Mouse-2 if it matters.

Any ideas?

I don't get clicks, but sometimes you can see hover effects on the server, specially when the server is displaying a YouTube video or something like that.
