How Does This Work?

There doesn't seem to any helpful information on the main website on how Synergy 2 actually works?  I lose my connections the moment my 2 iMacs go to sleep.  Shutting one down and restarting doesn't work.  Am I to shutdown both?  (why on earth would I?) Am I to launch Synergy on 1 iMac vs the other, and when the Synergy dashboard displays what do I do???  Do I double-click?  Do I right-click?...and on what machine?  Needless to say, Synergy 1 seemed much more user friendly than this version.  I believe that would change if we had some level of basic understanding on how the connections are supposed to work, and how to maintain these connections when they are dropped from one or both machines.
