Syslog output from the synergy package in the Arch repositories:
Apr 29 11:36:11 archie synergyc[746]: Synergy 1.7.1: 2015-04-29T11:36:11 DEBUG: plugins dir: /root/.synergy/plugins /build/synergy/src/synergy-1.7.1-stable/src/lib/arch/unix/ArchPluginUnix.cpp,51 Apr 29 11:36:11 archie unknown[746]: Synergy 1.7.1: 2015-04-29T11:36:11 DEBUG: can't open plugins dir: /root/.synergy/plugins /build/synergy/src/synergy-1.7.1-stable/src/lib/arch/unix/ArchPluginUnix.cpp,59 /build/synergy/src/synergy-1.7.1-stable/src/lib/platform/XWindowsScreen.cpp,920 /build/synergy/src/synergy-1.7.1-stable/src/lib/synergy/ClientApp.cpp,413 /build/synergy/src/synergy-1.7.1-stable/src/lib/synergy/ClientApp.cpp,284 Apr 29 11:36:11 archie kernel: synergyc[746]: segfault at 0 ip 000000000044741d sp 00007ffd7a25d120 error 4 in synergyc[400000+a3000] Apr 29 11:36:11 archie systemd-coredump[749]: Process 746 (synergyc) of user 0 dumped core.
Syslog output from building synergy from source:
Apr 29 11:47:17 archie synergyc[2993]: Synergy 1.7.1: WARNING: secondary screen unavailable: unable to open screen Apr 29 11:47:17 archie kernel: synergyc[2993]: segfault at 0 ip 000000000044785a sp 00007ffc3c783600 error 4 in synergyc[400000+a1000] Apr 29 11:47:17 archie systemd-coredump[2996]: Process 2993 (synergyc) of user 0 dumped core.
The synergyc process won't even run before it crashes so the server never gets anything in it's log. This started happening with 1.7.1, and worked fine before that. SSL is NOT enabled.

"can't open plugins dir: /root/.synergy/plugins" - try creating this directory manually? I dunno, maybe something in the arch repo version messes this up? "secondary screen unavailable: unable to open screen" - did you run synergy from within an xterm? if you switch to a vterm (ctrl-alt-F1, etc) it won't work. it MIGHT work if you specify a DISPLAY variable, but generally you want to run it from within the X session.
