FATAL: unknown screen name

i downloaded on my computer that i am going to use as a server. Did the install (including allowing access through windows firewall)

Then, i went to server config, changed the name of the server computer to Laptop-Lenovo.

I then installed synergy on my other windows 10 laptop. The windows firewall didn't pop up so i went and made some outbound rules

for some reason, on my server pc, i changed the name back to what my actual computer name is

now, when starting on my server, i always get "FATAL: unknown screen name Laptop-Lenovo"

i thought i had managed to confuse the software somehow by changing the name a lot

so i have since uninstalled on both machines and restarted

however, after reinstalling...the computer names seem to still be there

After changing/setting a screen name for a machine, restart Synergy interface by closing it and opening it again. Check if the changes you made reflects and proceed.

You you want to stick with that "Laptop-Lenovo" as your client machine's screen name or? If so, please reconfigure it on the Server Configuration interface for it to recognize that screen name. If you're still unable to make it work, please post a screenshot of both machine's Synergy interface and the server's Server Configuration interface.

It wouldn't really work since they are on different networks. You are trying to connect to an IP address on 192.168.56.x network while your client is on 192.168.1.x network. If your positive that they should be on the same network, try to look for an IP address on your server's Synergy interface that starts with 192.168.1.x (where x is a number from 1-254).
