Synergy causes a conflict with Voice Attack

I use Voice Attack for gaming http://www.voiceattack.com/ and Synergy to switch between systems. When Synergy is running and I attempt to use VA many of the key presses are not passed through VA to the game. Num pad works, CAPS lock, shift, alt, etc....but not A, B, C, 1, 2, 3, etc... Any idea why this is and what I can do (other than shut Synergy down) to fix this issue? Thanks.
