I shouldn't have to have the service running if Synergy isn't being used, it's that simple. Also Synergy 2 still has the sticky edge issue on my system so I don't want that buggy behaviour if I don't need it, but I shouldn't have to give that as a reason for easily stopping Synergy from running.

The best way to use synergy with gaming is to lock the keyboard and mouse to the gaming machine by pressing the scroll lock key while the cursor is on the gaming machine. You can then unlock it when you want to move to the streaming machine again by pressing scroll lock. This will solve your problem with Fortnite. In COD you will probably have to put the game in a menu of some sort to release the cursor and move to the streaming machine. In both of these scenarios the game will probably minimize but synergy can't help with that. Most full screen games minimize when they loose focus.

God this is frustrating! Please release a working product or don't release anything!

Same issue here. I use lightdm, but things should be close enough among kdm/gdm/etc. I had a quick look, what I've found so far is with Synergy 2, synergy-service is runautomatically and it runs synergy-core, which is good. However, at lightdm/gdm, synergy-core can't connect to Xorg due to permission issue. Where did you find it at? I am having issues out the wazoo with it. Windows 10 and Ubuntu 16.04lts. I think it the Ubuntu having issues

Part of it is the constant attempts to connect another system that may or may not be listening. It could show up as suspicious or nefarious network activity. That's why I'd like a start/stop panel feature, or at least a button in the GUI. It might as well tell the cloud server that that system is offline, let it notify the cloud server and my system in turn when it's back.
