  1. Had meant to starting testing this early, but life got in the way. So after an initial installation over an existing 1.85 install, things went ok. There was some initial detection issues, and confusion over the GUI but was finally able to connect, that said, I did notice a bit of drop out from time to time. So the first impressions are. - The beta4 gui is really basic. I'd expected to be able to click on each device and tweak its specific settings (hotkeys, screen saves options, clipboard sharing) or to just force certain devices to be clients or servers as before. - There is

  2. I'll jump in too. First, there are hundreds of thousands of successful, satisfied, Synergy users. There are hundreds of successful, satisfied, Synergy 2.0 beta users. If all this were not true, there would be no Synergy. You have a choice. You can take the time to work with the developers, even Nick, to work through your unique systems to reach a successful installation. Both you and Synergy will learn from the process. Or you can accept the gracious offer of a refund of whatever you have invested. You can go away happy. The rest of us will go forward, participating, learning and grow

  3. Personally, I disagree, and I'm about as much a 'power user' as anyone who signs up. The philosophy has been to get the "magic" configuration working first, and add only what's absolutely needed later. When the auto config does work, it's brilliant. That said, and alpha<->beta semantics/arguments aside, this isn't supposed to be a stable product. If you're a power user, you'll know how to read the log files and std out, scan ports, and open up telnet connections to figure out what's not working rather than venting here on the forum. Yes, you have no control over what gets sent up fo

  5. I don't see a problem with the paywall. A beta is at least partway usable. From my usage of it on multi-platform setups (Windows 10 and x2 macOS Sierra 10.12), it at least works. Sure, they could have marketed the product in a much better fashion (I'm looking at this objectively), but then again, Symless is a software company and not one that focuses on the marketing part of things. They are doing pretty good, but don't diss them for not marketing software as well as you think they should. Again, I'm looking at this objectively, not subjectively. However, as mentioned before, the paywall is th

  6. I wouldn't care if the product was pared down, if it was stable. I don't have a problem with ambition, just call it what it is - Alpha. Don't ask me to pay for beta software and deliver alpha software and expect me to be happy about it. So the plan is to release this software in November. They have yet to fix a long-standing bug that affects quite a number of users (myself included:) https://github.com/symless/synergy-core/issues/5226 Asking new users to pay a premium price (IIRC $49) for a piece of software that isn't ready is a sure-fire way to piss people off.

  7. As much as this goes for the Synergy 2 beta, it primarily goes for your stable v1 branch, since that's what you deem as "stable". Have you verified full application functionality on High Sierra with Synergy (that is planned to drop tomorrow)? It would help a lot if we could know whether Symless ensures that Synergy v1 and v2 will MOSTLY (except the occasional edge case, as with most updates) work with the new macOS OS. Thanks!

  8. Cecil Nurse is an office furniture supplier here is South Africa. They sponsor the broadcasting of pro cycling and I always laugh when I see this ad for their multitasking solution. We need to introduce them to synergy!

  10. I agree with @Georgios Tzedakis on the long-standing bug issue. There's no way I'm paying another penny until that issue in particular is resolved. And as of now, the problem is so prevalent & frustrating that I don't even use Symless anymore.

  11. iKah, The beta program for Synergy 2 is a separate license. It is intended for the technical minded that can put up with a few glitches.

  12. The GUI is opening but it is showing gray screen on the on the Mac. I followed the thread to check Activity Monitor and the Synergy is not showing after I close it so there is no option to Force Quit from Activity Monitor.

  13. Good shout! Every time Apple and Microsoft release a new OS, we do our best to test against it. But, when they release it out into the wild, there are always bugs we didn't catch. Have you seen any new bugs so far on High Sierra?

  14. I'm also running into this issue just as a heads up. When I had this issue rebooting the mac fixed the functionality, but the Mac in the GUI no longer shows the Windows desktop. On the Windows machine I can adjust everything and it works fine, but the Mac doesn't display the changes. Been a user of synergy since around 2006, just wanted to say thanks for all the good work!

  15. Is synergy2 officially suported for suse? I cant find it on the download page, how did you port the package(or where did you get it). I dont know if you can edit suse packages, but try adding these dependencies. libopenssl1_0_0 libqt5 im not really confortable with suse, or know what it is based on, but replacing the missing packages with these should fix it. both should be available on opensuse: https://software.opensuse.org/package/libopenssl1_0_0 https://software.opensuse.org/package/libqt5

  16. Support asked me to post these first impressions having moved to the 2.0.0-beta4 from 1.8.x First off this doesn't feel like beta software. I've been used to Synergy working reliably for a number of years. I was expecting more of the same here but it seems more like an Alpha at best. I quite understand that you are making big changes but the Beta moniker doesn't really describe the experience at the moment. I don't like the fact that Synergy needs to connect to your servers to configure itself. Why can't we just put a licence code in like other software? Odds are that at some point

  17. the abiity to move my mouse cursor between screens for one.. On my three console main working rig I've gone back to V1.8 but kept the beta running on a couple of spare machines. I'm afraid I agree with Daniel until it meets even the basic working functionality of 1.8 it can't be regarded as a beta. We are used to the quirks of development software but it needs to hit a baseline before release that I don't think this did. The price as others have said is not really an issue anyone who quibbles over $5 is just screwy, but at this stage it should really have invited to parallel development tes

  18. I do think "beta" is a bit of a misnomer here, as this hasn't even reached minimum viable product, yet - it really feels more like alpha or proof of concept at the moment. I'd put a vote in for stopping calling this a beta until, at the very least, it has reached feature parity with synergy 1 - until then it's an alpha at best.
