  1. I dont see how people can complain about a beta not working hours before the next version. its not like they are actually going to implement any new suggestions anymore, and its beta software, outages should be expected anyways.

  2. Don't worry. In future, we're going to make sure this doesn't happen again (even for the betas).

  3. One suggestion for Symless: The download page https://symless.com/synergy/downloads for Synergy 2 doesn't tell me which version is available, so I (most likely like everyone else) have downloaded a couple dozen copies of beta3 already today to check if next version has dropped. If that page showed me (even on mouseover) the file/version, I'd be consuming less of your bandwidth.

  5. Going through the troubleshooting again AFTER the clean install seems to have done the trick.

  6. mkdir -p ~/.config/synergy/ ln -s ~/.config/Symless/Synergy/synergy.conf ~/.config/synergy/synergy.conf /usr/bin/synergyd #then open app in gnome they are both connected now. However, I have the same issue I had in beta 3, but I'll start a new thread for that.

  7. The beta4 Troubleshooting guide worked for me For the record the windows machine was the culprit

  8. So far so good, Beta4 is working perfectly for me on Windows 10 Pro x64 box with dual screens (server) Windows 7 Pro x64 with dual screens Windows 10 Pro x64 with single screen I will note one interesting tidbit. Although the "`" key (next to the number one) is great for displaying the log, the F12 key to claim server status seems to work a little differently. At least it seems so. Now If I claim server on another machine I need to use the keyboard and mouse from that machine, I don't remember this being so before (although I rarely use the other machines as the server).

  9. Hi all, Synergy 2 beta4 is now live (download beta4). In this version added a service for all operating systems (so it runs in the background) and we fixed the scaling problems with the autodiscovery feature. The new service code is highly experimental, so if you're having problems getting connected please read the beta4 troubleshooting guide. If the guide doesn't help, or if you'd like to share your feedback, please open a new thread. Enjoy! Thanks, Nick

  10. I really like Synergy; I've used it for years. I've had nothing but great experiences with support and updates. I think of Synergy as family: HOWEVER, This morning's glitch is not a glitch in a software program, to be expected in a beta version. The current glitch is a management problem. Someone coded the current version to end yesterday while someone else didn't have the next version ready to download. Whoever these someones are, they didn't communicate. Worse than just the left hand not knowing what the right hand was doing, this interruption has happened before. The same sit

  11. people shouldn't complain about the beta being "out of date" when they are working on bringing a new one out in a couple of hours. the team should work on getting this fixed for the next release but you shouldn't complain about a beta not working, sure add a forum post/topic to make sure the team knows that something is wrong an they'll try to fix it. it has been a while since they said that it would be done soon, and it has been 13 days late already. and maybe they could roll back to the old servers and update link. if you download a beta you shouldnt expect it to work, or rely

  14. Thinking about the future, is there a way to make sure the beta4 cutover happens after the upcoming beta5 is released? The whole betaX can't be used, betaY is not yet released...is annoying, even for a beta.

  15. Sorry for the delay guys, beta4 is a matter of hours away. Thanks for being patient.

  16. Yeah tight @quad_bx but you can also subscribe top right! +1 anyway! Bring on the beta 4 awesome sauce @Nick Bolton I can't believe I'm allowed to have an annoying animated gif avatar.

  17. While I agree that it's a pain to get this message only to find out that there's no new version available for download which makes synergy 2 inoperable, it's also worth mentioning that it only take less than 15 minutes to get synergy 1.8 running.

  18. ok - I fixed it Just go to this page: https://www.ubuntuupdates.org/ppa/getdeb_apps?dist=xenial and add the repository - fixed it as soon as I sudo apt update sudo apt upgrade etc etc still no clue why it would not install 1.8.8 stable from the get go..................... - meh ALL GOOD!!!! [still need to test it - lol]

  19. Just posting here for an update when beta 4 will be available. Thanks Symless!

  20. I'd argue that when the software maintainer has already said that their beta is experiencing some disruption, and asked everyone to "sit tight," that you don't need to report anything. Just "sit tight."

  21. My beta systems are buyer-beware. They can go down whenever and for how ever long I need them to. Of course, just like the guys at Symless, I try to keep them up, but sometimes, unexpected stuff happens. An upgrade can go pear-shaped, and so I usually do that sort of work after-hours (after my work hours) when I can. I don't expect a SLA for a $5 beta. I'm happy when it works.

  23. For reals guys: purchase SynergyPro. Give them your $29. Set up your critical machines, save yourself the aggravation, and give yourself a leg to stand on. Complaining that a software beta went offline, even without warning, just makes you look whiny. Play around with Synergy2 when you can to provide feedback on how it is/isn't working. Don't rely on it.

  24. then you shouldnt be using a beta version of software for production use anyway......

  25. Seriously, people: It's a beta. Use Synergy 1 if downtime is an issue for you.

  26. I ended up just using a crossover cable. It was surprisingly straightforward and simple. I'm able to have each computer wirelessly connected to the network but my 2 laptops are connected to each other via crossover ethernet so that synergy works for my software KVM. On the client side of synergy I had to manually input the other computer's (synergy server) IP address.

  28. I've managed to find a way around the problem. I re-ran the installer when logged into the "local" account on my client machine (as opposed to one tied to a windows account) and the installer ran without a problem! Thanks for the help!
