Understanding server and client

Good morning all,

 

Will Synergy work with the following -

 

1) Home computer connected to wireless router

2) business computer using home wireless router, but connected to customer VPN.

 

I installed the server on my home laptop and installed the software on my work computer, but I cannot seem to get them connected.

 

Am I all wet here and this just won't work?

 

Any help would be appreciated.
