Unable to gather system configuration information.

 

Having read some threads on the subject, I think I understand that those of us who paid a long time ago will get Synergy 2 licenses once it's stable (I paid in 2014). But for $5 it was worth having a try at early access, or so I thought.

Beta 4 starts fine on my Windows 7 desktop (which had never run Synergy before the beta), but won't start at all on the 2011 MacBook Pro I used with 1.x. I'm not actually able to test anything, because it won't run on more than one machine. Might go back and use 1.8 if I can't get the beta working soon-ish.

No, for the Synergy 2 pre-release builds. Something that would tell me my version of macOS isn't currently supported by the beta.

I second this. I just bought a Synergy 2 Pro license so I could try the pre-release and I think I can't because I'm on 10.10 as well. Can we expect the next beta to be compatible? the final release *has* to be, right?

Edit: I was gonna upload the log since the app just bounced once and never started, but I guess it's pointless at this point.

Unfortunately, the first 2.0 release won't support legacy macOS, but this is coming soon.

Three years old is "legacy" in Mac-land? You support Windows 7 (released in 2009) right now in the beta.

We (myself and limacohen) to can't expect to run Synergy 2.0 on our Macs until some point after the stable release? That's disappointing, to put it mildly.

That depends on whether my existing 1.x license from 2014 will be upgraded after final release of 2.0. I can't test the early access betas without macOS 10.10 support, but I do want to upgrade once my OS is supported.

2.0 won't support 10.10, but 2.1 will. It's due early next year.

Right, 10.10 will be supported at some point. The question is, should I keep my early access license or will my 2014 1.x license already give me 2.x once it's stable? If not, the early access functions as a pre-order of 2.x. If so, I don't need early access if my setup isn't compatible with the beta.

So that's what I'm really asking at this stage.

I know this wasn't directly asked to me but in my case I was disappointed mainly because the last working release of Synergy I can run on my OS is 1.8.8, and it has some nasty bugs concerning the cursor. The last one (1.9.0 RC3) hangs immediately after loading (and no, it's not the corrupted serial thing). My hopes were on 2.0.0 beta 5, I paid to try that, and sadly I can't (and I don't remember having read a warning about the OS version requirement).

So, personally I'm "fine" waiting for "early next year" (being a dev myself I'm more than sympathetic with the production cycles), but it would be reassuring to know I can get a refund then if I still can't use the software (as I'm linking two Macs, and one of them is definitely staying "legacy").
