Can't connect/login on Windows 10 x64 pro

We are in a NATed AD administered by our parent company which is a hospital (so HIPAA problems).  The machines I will be "tethering" are in the same silo affected by all the same policies/GPOs.

The "server" is a win10 pro 64 bit machine, while one of the "clients" is a win7 pro x64 and the others are win 10 pro 64 bit.

The Synergy network topology (client/server) currently corresponds to its operational mode (master/slave). This is true even with auto-switching/bidirectional control introduced in  2.0.

A future version will be lifting this limitation, but whether this change makes it in to 2.0 final will be conditional on our current work going smoothy.

Once we've fixed this you should be able to use Synergy as-intended.

I will now have to figure this out - because currently I can't get it to respond  on the other screen.  Is there a default keystroke to switch screens, or do you have to play around with moving the screens around on top of each other?

If you press the ` key (it's to the left of the 1 key and above tab on most PC keyboards) you'll be able to see your old faithful log. 2.0 by default will try to switch to server mode on any client on which you press a key or mouse button, which you may find inconvenient given your network arrangement.

If you need to force a machine to become server, you can hit F12

the debug/log window helps.  But despite which machine (I am testing on 2) is made server (using f12) I can't get control of the remote mouse.

got it working from win 7 box to win 10 box but not the other way (using the mouse/keyboard from other computer to type and send this).

making the win 10 box the server just disconnects both so they act as if synergy is not there.  I will try disabling some security software on the win 10 box

It likely fails in one direction because of the network setup you mentioned. Although both IPs are in the same /8 subnet (only the last digit varies), so any NAT or firewall between them would be very unusual.

If all else fails try disabling the Windows Firewall

both systems are dual screen (the norm these days) when I set the win 7 system to be server using f12, the cursor that was in the middle of the primary screen on that machine ends up in the staying on the computers' screen until I move it and then it acts like the secondary computer is an extended third and fourth screen

we have a managed version of Symantec Endpoint Protection (12.x) which I can't control.  Everything else is turned off.  Windows firewall is not turned on - SEP turns it off by policy.

Very interesting. I guess that's why Synergy can connect one way but not the other.

+1 for Dynamic High Availability Network Infrastructure!

Just ruminating on this Symantec nonsense...

It's pretty crazy that there are employers and sysadmins out there forcing managed software firewalls on users that they can't turn off (like SEP), yet at the same time allow the very same users to install whatever software they please (like Synergy)

Yup, it's a crazy world indeed. And it's our job to help our users find their way through it :)

Some info that might help:

the win 10 machine (#1) sits physcially next to the win7 machine (#2)

  • both have required SEP software
  • both have several pieces pf antiransomware software
  • 1 has HitmanPro.Alert, MBARW beta, winpatrol plus, winpatrol antiransomware (WAR)
  • 1 runs several consoles including the Faronics DeepFreeze Enterprise Console for this department
  • Since 1 is the primary machine there are a bunch of other programs there as well - I would attach an audit file but pdf's are not accepted

I discovered the problem.  One of the computers (Win 10 box) had a problem so I used a clone drive.  The problem was that the network detected it as a different computer and lost the trust relationship.  Once the computer was unjoined from the domain and rejoined, everything worked again.

I am having the same exact issue all of a sudden, was presented with a signin and now signed in, after failing the first time, but now both boxes are black and not green as it used to be, came to the forums to see if others having an issue.

Nothing in my environment has changed.
